"You make me want to be a better person."

These are the words we said to each other some time ago. It still stands today, and neither of us can envision this changing, because it aptly describes our intentions as a couple. What this declaration means is not that we are lacking in any way, but that we improve each other in a give-and-take that is reciprocal and rooted in open and honest communication.

How did we meet? We ask ourselves that question all the time. At the start-of-year staff meeting in 2006, where Liz stood up as she was introduced to her new colleagues? Or was it a month later, the first time Chris said 'hi' as Liz crossed the parking lot with her sweet-seeming boy in tow? What about the holiday party later that year, at the Street household? It's hard to say, because our meeting was never launched by any kind of face-to-face formality peppered with small talk. Our meeting looked more like an emerging awareness of one another.

That mutual awareness grows with each day we spend together. How did we meet? That's the question we ask, because we share a familiarity that stretches to before and after this present time. That being the case, our meeting was either predetermined or more lucky than a winning lotto ticket. Either way, we acknowledge how rich we've become and dedicate ourselves to this partnership. A partnership in which we are dedicated to supporting and encouraging each other professionally, creatively, and personally.

The road trip we took last summer is one example of our intention to make our dreams come true, together. Liz doesn't drive on the freeway and Chris doesn't always prefer to get mired in the details, and thinks he lacks follow through. Together we made it happen! Twenty-three days in a car... and in the end, we stood in awe of each other and our accomplishment.

So many road trips to come! And who knows what else? For sure, starting a business together. And holy moly! We did our National Boards together this year. When we're old and gray, we may just open a waffle cart. So many possibilities. All achievable, together.
